The Airship 37 launch drew a sophisticated crowd.
Last night, I attended the launch of Airship37, an event venue in downtown Toronto, on Parliament Street, adjacent to the Distillery District.
Accommodating up to 400, the space comprises 5,000 sq. ft., in two spaces, the Gooderham lounge and Tabula Rasa room (the larger of the two).
There’s an airy, industrial feel to the space, thanks to high ceilings (at least 20 ft., by my estimate), exposed brick walls and bare concrete floors.
A second-floor platform, in the Tabula Rasa space, literally elevates the DJ above the crowd, to dramatic effect.
Adding elegance are a customized, built-in bar; chic lounge furniture; and antique Parisian chandelier.
On the food side, there was a good selection of caterers presenting their wares. Among those represented were Berkeley Events, Marigolds & Onions, 10tation, Toben’s Good For You Gourmet, Daniel et Daniel and Presidential Gourmet.
Among the highlights were cold poached shrimp on soba noodles with green onion; seared tuna with avocado and Asian pear; poutine topped with braised beef short rib; Asian-spiced duck on gnocchi; jerk-flavoured chicken-burger sliders with mango chutney; watermelon/gazpacho shooters; and mini-pot pies (chicken and seafood).
On the dessert side, really enjoyed the shortcake with rhubarb chutney, panna cotta and strawberry sorbet; and bite-sized variations on key lime pie, blueberry tart and lemon meringue pie.
