BEICC Announces 2016 Launch of New Economic Impact Study

The Business Events Industry Coalition of Canada (BEICC) announced this week that research for the fourth edition of the Canadian Economic Impact Study (CEIS) would begin in 2016.

The BEICC has partnered with Ryerson University’s Hospitality department to conduct the study. The research will be helmed by Professor Richard Wade. Like the previous editions, CEIS 4.0 will gather statistical data on the economic contribution of business events in Canada.

The BEICC is also partnering with Business Events Toronto to bring  planners and suppliers together on the eve of National Meetings Industry Day (NMID) 2016. Details of the party, which will be held in the Toronto area, are not yet available but event pros should save the date—Wednesday, April 13, 2015.

The BEICC was incorporated in 2009. Its members are the Convention Centres of Canada; International Special Events Society Canada (ISES Canada); Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA); Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Toronto chapter; Canadian Association of Exposition Management (CAEM); Canadian Society of Special Event Planners (CanSPEP); Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) Canada; ADMEI – Association of Destination Management Executives; and Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS).

Data collected for CEIS 3.0 showed that 585,000 business events were held in Canada in 2012. These events contributed $27 billion (1.5 per cent) to GDP and supported 341,700 full-time jobs.
