Construction is set to launch this month on the $500-million ‘Linq’ project, on the Las Vegas strip, that will include a 550-ft. observation wheel (a fancier version of a Ferris wheel) and a restaurant-entertainment district connecting the Flamingo and Imperial Palace resorts, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
Spearheading the project is Caesars Entertainment. Design and construction of the observation wheel — its 28 cabins will each hold up to 40 passenger — will be a technical feat on par with the construction of San Francisco’s Bay Bridge, said Marybel Batjer, Caesars Entertainment vice-president of public policy and communications, according to the Sun.
The project also involves the “re-skinning” of the Imperial Palace and O’Sheas casino, providing the businesses new facades, and construction of 326,000 sq. ft. of retail, dining and entertainment between the Flamingo and the Imperial Palace, says the Sun.
Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2013.
