Meetings & Conventions Calgary is ready to deliver on the promise of “More. Better. Different.” Calgarians have always been an agreeable bunch. From their White Hat Ceremonies welcoming visitors as honorary citizens, to their famous Stampede parties and Red Mile revelry after sporting events, Calgary folks are famous for finding new ways to work together and play together. The latest example of Calgary’s progressive attitude is Meetings & Conventions Calgary, the new MC&IT marketing organization formed through a partnership of Tourism Calgary, Calgary TELUS Convention Centre and the Calgary Hotel Association.

Meetings & Conventions Calgary’s mandate is to assist meeting planners, association executives and corporate clients when considering Calgary as a prime location for meetings and conventions. Having a stand-alone organization, dedicated to serving the MC&IT market and working in cooperation with other tourism destination bodies, is a unique model for the Canadian market, and the partners are confident it will be a successful one for Calgary.

“The goal of the partnership is about putting together more competitive offers, providing more services and assistance to make the selection and planning process easier for meeting professionals. It’s also about providing services better, delivering a better product, and presenting a consistent brand that helps people understand why Calgary is a better choice than ever before,” says Peter Gregus, Managing Director of Meetings & Conventions Calgary.

Calgary’s MC&IT players have seen the industry evolving rapidly. “Meeting professionals have been under pressure to deliver more, better and different events,” says Gregus. “The industry is becoming more demanding—customized offers, shorter planning cycles and unique experiences are what it’s all about. We aim to deliver on all counts. We’ve built a very experienced team that includes industry veterans working alongside strong, energetic newcomers with specialized industry training.”

“Flexibility and service delivery is our focus,” continues Gregus. “Meetings & Conventions Calgary is a one-stop shop for a range of services from information and planning assistance to a full, turnkey solution. Certainly other cities offer this, but for us it’s all about offering more, doing it better and providing something different.”

In January, 2010, the organization launched the first phase of its website dedicated to providing planners with a central, searchable repository of pertinent information about Calgary meeting venues and accommodations.

The site also provides a single point of contact and the ability for planners to submit requests for proposals (RFPs) that Meetings & Conventions Calgary can distribute to venues and service providers through an electronic bid-referral system.

Meetings & Conventions Calgary coordinates appropriate resources to develop a comprehensive, multi-party bid. More. Better. Different. These are three words you’ll hear a lot from Calgary’s MC&IT community. Calgary is known for doing things differently and this new partnership will enable the city to have more people in more places telling the Calgary story.
