Cantrav Welcomes New VP Sales & Marketing

Matthew Coyne has been appointed Cantrav Services’ new vice-president of sales and marketing. Coyne is replacing Janice Cann, who is retiring from the event and destination management company.

“I have big shoes to fill,” says Coyne. “But my past experience in destination marketing organizations like Tourism Vancouver has well-prepared me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I know that Cantrav will lead the market and I’m confident that I have a role to play.”

“The future is bright,” says Cann, who plans to stay on in an advisory role, at least temporarily. “This business has grown a lot. I can’t wait to see the bright future unfold. Whatever it is, I know Cantrav will be ready.”

Based in Vancouver, the DMC has grown its geographic coverage and services. Earlier this year, it opened an office in downtown Toronto and tagged well-known events executive Debbie Cotton-Burinski to head up the operation. “We’re seeing huge interest,” reports Cotton-Burinski, who heads up a team of three professionals with more than three decades of combined experience.

Beyond tapping into the eastern Canadian market, Cantrav is taking a stance on the international meetings stage. President George Bartel authored a feature article, which will appear in the January issue of the UK’s M&IT Meeting Magazine. In it, he explains that DMCs have a responsibility to articulate their value add and make a case for investment in their services.
