Chicago Getting More Hotel Rooms

Chicago, one of the world’s top meeting cities, will see more than 500 rooms added to its hotel offerings in the last six months of 2014.

Properties scheduled to open/reopen from July 2014 through December 2014 include:

Avenue Crown Plaza Chicago – The property is undergoing renovations, scheduled to be complete this month, and will become a Hilton hotel under two names: Hampton Inn & Suites Magnificent Mile (230 rooms) and Homewood Suites Magnificent Mile (120 rooms). The new lobby will have separate check-in desks for both hotels. There will be Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites sleeping rooms on each floor. However, conventions will primarly contract Hampton Inn rooms.

SOHO House Hotel – This exclusive, members-only property is slated to open in the West Loop’s Fulton Market district this August. The six-story, 35-room hotel will include a full-sized pool, spa, rooftop bar and three open-to-the-public restaurants.

12. S Michigan Avenue Project – Construction is currently underway on a joint venture between Chicago-based AJ Capital Partners LLC and San Francisco-based Geolo Capital have begun demolition inside the former Chicago Athletic Association landmark building at 12 S. Michigan Avenue and 71 E. Madison Street. The 240-room hotel is scheduled to open in fall 2014.

Virgin Hotel Chicago – This 250-room property, located one block off Michigan Avenue in the historic art deco Dearborn Bank Building, follows the hip, fresh brand created by Sir Richard Branson. Two restaurants, meeting and event spaces, rooftop bar and lounge, and the Virgin Clubhouse are among the amenities. Scheduled to open in fall 2014.
