Construction is underway on a 24,000-sq.-ft. conference and athlete training centre in Kimberley, B.C., targeting a fall opening.

The largest conference facility in Eastern B.C., the centre will be able to host banquets for 350 and theatre-style meetings for 500.

In addition to the main ballroom and pre-conference space, the centre will offer four breakout rooms. To accommodate meeting and event planners, all conference rooms will be equipped with advanced audiovisual capabilities.

Moreover, the centre has been designed to exceed Model National Energy Code by more than 30 per cent, says Heather Hornoi, Kimberley’s economic development officer, who is managing the construction project.

“The new building will also house our Athlete Training Centre, which was designed specifically for Paralympic skiers and other athletes,” said Hornoi.
