Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) has unveiled a 9,500-sq.-ft. ‘green roof’ that will enhance the facility’s sustainability.
Designed by Plant Architect Inc., Liza’s Garden is located on the south portion of the Philosopher’s Walk wing. On the environmental side, the roof will improve the museum’s eco-friendliness through storm-water retention, reduction of the heat-island effect and by providing a habitat for birds and insects.
The roof garden has been funded to honor the memory of Liza Samuel, former chair of the ROM board of trustees, who died in March.
