Starwood Names Paul Sacco Senior VP, North America Development

Starwood Hotels has promoted Paul Sacco to senior vice-president of North America development. In his new role, Sacco will lead North American hotel development for all Starwood brands in the U.S., Canada, Hawaii and Caribbean. Sacco will report to Simon Turner, president, global development.

Sacco started his career with Starwood in 2003 as a vice-president of the managed and franchised team for all brands. Starting in 2005, in addition to his full service responsibilities, Sacco led the development aspects of the evolution of aloft and element. Most recently, he led the franchise-development team in North America for all franchise brands.

Maritz Names Alissa Hurley Director, Meetings, Events and Incentive Travel

Maritz Canada has named Alissa Hurley director, meetings, events and incentive travel. Hurley will lead a team of industry experts in incentive travel, strategic meetings management and experiential marketing. Hurley brings over 15 years experience in managing large conferences and expositions, incentive-travel operations, destination management and marketing communications. She joined Maritz in 2004, most recently taking on the role of portfolio director, strategic event marketing.

Texas Tourism Hosts Canadian Trade FAM

Texas Tourism Canada hosted a Canadian trade FAM trip to Austin and San Antonio, June 23-25. To showcase its new Austin route on the state-of-the-art CRJ aircraft, Air Canada partnered with Texas Tourism to fly trade delegates down to Texas. Canadian travel partners were wined and dined by the Austin and San Antonio CVBs and their hotel and attraction partners. Highlights in Austin included a private dinner on the 12th tee of the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa. In San Antonio, delegates were treated to a private Riverwalk Barge cocktail reception with dinner at Boudrous on the Riverwalk, along with a trip to the Alamo. In Canada, Texas Tourism is represented by VoX International.
