MPI Announces 2008-2009 Canadian Chapter Presidents
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has announced its Canadian chapter presidents for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.
Those new chapter presidents are as follows: Atlantic Canada Chapter, Alana Hirtle, CMP, White Point Beach Resort; B.C. Chapter, Arlene Kravitz, CMP, Greater Vancouver Foodbank Society; Greater Calgary Chapter, Susan Ross, CMP, Meeting Solution Inc.; Greater Edmonton Chapter, Craig Berry, AVW-TELAV; Manitoba Chapter, Tara Torchia-Wells, Planners Plus Inc.; Montreal Chapter, Maxime Lefebvre, Techni-Logique; Ottawa Chapter, Francois Brunet, DE Systems LTD.; Toronto Chapter, Suzanne Forster, Toronto Congress Centre;

Poets Cove Names Maria Chen Director of Sales and Genevieve Laplante Executive Chef
Poets Cove Resort & Spa, on Pender Island, in B.C.’s Gulf Islands, has named Maria Chen director of sales and Genevieve Laplante executive chef. Bringing over 20 years of sales experience with her, Chen spent the last four years as senior sales manager at Vancouver’s Georgian Court Hotel and has held sales positions at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel and Executive Hotels & Resorts. Chen’s hotel career began with the Intercontinental Hotels Group.
Laplante honed her culinary skills in Zurich at the renowned Sihlhalde restaurant. She then moved to Venice, Ca., where she catered to DreamWorks and Fox Studios. With stops at top eateries in Vancouver, Laplante returned to Victoria, B.C., in 1999 and most recently, was executive chef at Truffles Catering and The Truffles Group Inc.
Speakers’ Spotlight Founders Named Finalists for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Awards
Speakers’ Spotlight founders Farah and Martin Perelmuter have been named finalists for the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards. During the last 13 years, the company has emerged as Canada’s largest speakers bureau, with offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa and a client roster that includes The Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, Justin Trudeau, Margaret Trudeau, Pamela Wallin, Ben Mulroney, The Rt. Hon. Joe Clark, David Suzuki, Michael "Pinball" Clemons and Ron MacLean.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Ontario award winners will be announced on October 16th, and the overall winner will represent the region at the national banquet in November.
