Inspired by the positive reception from Breaking the Ice, its first carbon-offset special event, Metropolitan Pavilion, in New York, is launching a pilot programme to offset the carbon footprint for special events booked at any of its three venues, including the Gallery and The Level. The programme will be administered through carbon-offset organization carbonfund.org and will be first offered to Breaking the Ice attendees who book through the end of 2008.

Carbonfund.org calculates the amount of emissions based on such factors as an event’s duration, number of attendees and transportation to and from the event.

“Investing in renewable energy sources is just one of many ways we can offset our carbon footprint,” says Shelly Taggar, director of sales and creative services, Metropolitan Pavilion.
