Vancouver luxury travel agency Mason Horvath has been chosen as an Accredited Space Agent (ASA) for Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic sub-orbital flights, scheduled to launch in 2010.
Costing $200,000 U.S., with 50 per cent deposit, the inaugural flight includes astronaut training at the National AeroSpace Training and Research Centre and pre-flight accommodation at Spaceport America. Second-year Voyager seats can be secured with a $20,000 U.S. deposit.
The three-day trip includes two days dedicated to training and pre-flight preparation in advance of the sub-orbital flight more than 110 km above the Earth’s surface. Passengers will exit the Earth’s atmosphere in a vertical climb reaching supersonic speeds of 2,500 mph and ultimately will free-float weightlessly in zero gravity and explore the vessel, before a reclined re-entry at 6G force.
