A new luxury hotel group, Guoman Hotels, is launching in England and targeting China.

The launch encompasses about $273-million in renovations and rebranding of a number of London properties, including a $30-million refurbishment of The Royal Horseguards Hotel, to a five-star property; a $13-million renovation of The Tower Hotel; a $12.3-million renovation of The Charing Cross and The Grosvenor, beside Victoria Station; a recently completed redesign of The Cumberland Hotel into a trendy spot for business travelers; conversion of a property at Heathrow Airport (near the new Terminal 3) to a Guoman hotel; and future renovation of the art-deco-style Marble Arch Hotel.

Next year, Guoman Hotels will open a 460-room deluxe hotel as part of a mixed-use project in Beijing and a 360-room hotel in Shanghai.
