Toronto-based superchef Susur Lee has made his U.S. debut at Shang, his just-opened restaurant launched in the brand-new Thompson LES Hotel, on New York’s Lower East Side.
Armed with recipes from recent travels to Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei, Lee brings his signature ‘modern Chinese’ style to a discerning New York audience, who will sample such debut dishes as magret duck with osmanthi flower, chile honey and braised burdock root.
Visually, Shang exudes cool elegance via Italian glass tiles, handmade bronze and orange chandeliers and walnut banquette tables. Shang seats 130 and features a private dining area seating 10.
Lee’s two Toronto restaurants, Madeline’s and Lee, continue to operate.
