In 2009, meeting and event budgets are expected to fall by 6 per cent, and the meetings industry will sharpen its focus and streamline its activities in a tough global market. This, according to FutureWatch 2009, a survey of Meeting Professionals International’s (MPI) worldwide membership.
Other key findings: Seventeen per cent of corporate planners and 12 per cent of association planners predict some level of budget reduction this year. Moreover, meeting attendance (per meeting) is expected to increase by 3 per cent in Europe, Middle East and Africa, but decline by 5 per cent in the U.S.
The executive summary is available online. Full study results will be presented during MPI’s 2009 MeetDifferent conference, in Atlanta, Feb. 7-10.
