The 38,000-sq.-ft. Vancouver Island Conference Centre is slated to open June 7, in downtown Nanaimo, B.C.
The facility will accommodate up to 1,300 delegates and will feature fully integrated audio-visual and digital way-finding, global broadcasting capabilities from every meeting room, including a ballroom measuring almost 14,000 sq. ft., and a custom telecommunications network. There are also nine breakout rooms and an auditorium.
More than 80 events are booked for the brand-new venue, says director of sales and marketing Jim Owens, who adds that the first event is scheduled for June 11.
Other high-tech features include voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP), full wireless access throughout the complex and ‘green’ conferencing technology. Environmentally-friendly features include low-emitting windows and recycled carpeting.
