The only benchmarking study for Canadian meeting planners to gauge their remuneration against industry averages. By Stephen T. Dempsey, April 16, 2010
There is an old saying about competitive salaries: ‘We remain competitive by paying less than our competitors.’ M&IT’s 2010 Salary Survey allows you to benchmark yourself against national averages to gauge your organization’s competitiveness in the marketplace.
The survey was conducted in December, 2009, and was completed by 302 meeting planners from across Canada. Among respondents, 42 per cent were corporate, 28 per cent were government/association/not-for-profit and 30 per cent were third-party/independent meeting planners. All of the individual responses are strictly confidential and only total results are published.

What does this mean to you? Even though 82 per cent of meeting planners are women, male respondents are out-earning women regardless of organization type. The men surveyed have slightly more experience, 13.5 average years vs. 11.8 years for women. However, 1.7 years more experience does not justify a 37 per cent higher national average remuneration for male meeting planners.
