Cobo Centre is undergoing a three-phase expansion.

Construction is underway on an expansion to the exhibit hall at Cobo Centre convention facility, in Detroit.

The expansion will add 25,000 gross sq. ft. to the rear of Wayne Hall, one of the four contiguous exhibit spaces on the main floor.

The addition is part of the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority’s three-year, three-phased $270-million plan for the reinvention of Metro Detroit’s regional convention facility.

The 25,000-sq.-ft. Wayne Hall addition is scheduled for completion by November.

The third and final phase will include the reconfiguration of Cobo Arena as a 40,000-sq.-ft. ballroom with meeting, pre-function and back-of-house spaces.

When complete, Cobo will be equipped with over 150,000 sq. ft. of additional meeting and show-floor space.

Completion, for the entire project, is scheduled for 2015.
