Dynamic Hospitality Breaks Ground on Guild Inn Restoration

Dynamic Hospitality and Entertainment Group Inc. announced its plans for the restoration and renovation of the historic Guild Inn at a ground-breaking ceremony attended by Toronto Mayor John Tory, Ward 33 Councillor Paul Ainslee and other special guests and VIPs. The renovation will transform the property into a venue capable of accommodating more than 1,000 guests.

After three years of negotiations, Sam D’Uva and Pierro Suppa, the founders of Dynamic Hospitality, signed a 40-year agreement for the former Guild Inn. They have hired Giancarlo Garafalo Architect Inc. and Peter Pascaris of Queen’s Quay Architects International (Q2) as the design consultants for the project.

The Guild Inn is a heritage landmark property. Located on the Scarborough Bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario, it was originally comprised of a private residence in the Arts and Crafts style, with studios and workshops surrounded by 88 acres of gardens and woodlands, and was home to the only Depression-era artists’ colony in Canada.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority acquired the property for use as a public park in 1978. Its hotel hosted some of the city’s most prestigious events before its doors closed in 2001.

The restoration is scheduled to be completed by December 2016. The project will combine the restored historical building with a contemporary state-of-the-art addition. Historical and priceless works of art will be featured throughout the grounds and facility.

“Citizens of the GTA will finally see the landmark location revived to its original splendour and glory to play host to the most important celebrations in the city,” said Sam D’Uva, managing director, Dynamic Hospitality & Entertainment Group. “Hosting annual meetings, film and photo shoots and corporate events, to social and city gatherings including charity galas, intimate dinners and memorable weddings, the GTA will once celebrate in style, with a nod to the history of the Guild Inn.”

The Guild Inn Estate

The new complex will be known as The Guild Inn Estate. It will be comprised of 40,000 square feet of usable space featuring ceremony rooms, bridal suites and a restaurant. In total, it will accommodate up to 1,000 guests.

Each function room will have an outdoor terrace that can be used as a pre-function space and/or lounge area. The banquet space will showcase a floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooking the parklands, historic monuments and a vaulted gazebo.

The renovated Bickford Bistro restaurant will be open to the community and will feature a tranquil, outdoor terrace.

“At the time of breaking ground, we already have confirmed bookings for the venue. The demand in the GTA for a distinctive special event venue steeped in history is apparent,” said Piero Suppa, managing director, Dynamic Entertainment. “Offering a superb location, exquisite style and incomparable history, The Guild inn Estate will be alive with social celebrations as well as corporate functions, and we hope it will be the focal point of Toronto’s special events scene.”
