Following an intensive and delicious countrywide search, enRoute magazine has named Canada’s top ten restaurants for its 2009 survey, providing dine-around ideas to meeting and incentive travel groups.
The list, in order: Cibo Trattoria, Vancouver, “this is decadence, circa 2009”; The Black Hoof, Toronto, specializing in cured meats, made in-house; Rush, Calgary, offering cosmopolitan, local-inspired fare; Atelier, Ottawa, headed by chef Marc Lépine’s science-inspired kitchen; Murray Street, Ottawa, focusing on Upper Canadian farmhouse cooking.
Rounding out the top ten are Cabane à sucre Au pied de cochon, Saint-Benoît de Mirabel,. a backwoods outpost of Martin Picard’s popular Montreal eatery; Ship to Shore, Malpeque Bay, PEI, a refurbished 1970s roadhouse specializing in seafood.
And the final three: Pizzeria Libretto, Toronto, “the only place in Canada to bear the pizza police’s stamp of approval”; Culina Highlands, Edmonton, where the style is modern Ukrainian; La Salle à Manger, Montreal, a bistro dishing up inventively exciting food.
