Managers of an Estonian government initiative covering up to 70-per-cent of conference costs will begin accepting funding applications Dec. 21.

Under the programme, organizers of large, international conferences in Estonia can have between $29,000 Cdn and $100,000 Cdn (€19,000 to €64,000) of their event costs reimbursed, provided they meet certain criteria.

The events must be international, help raise Estonia’s profile as a travel destination, be at least three days long, include at least 300 overnight stays and involve a local or regional sightseeing element.

Only not-for-profit events are eligible.

Funds from the programme can be used to cover such conference-related expenses as organization and marketing costs and printed materials.

The deadline for this round of applications is Jan. 4, 2010. More rounds will follow next year and the programme will last through 2011.
