Rendering of Fairmont Austin, expected in 2015.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will manage a new, 50-storey conference hotel in Austin, Tex., slated to open in 2015, featuring over 70,000 sq. ft. of function space.
Expected to cost $350-million to build, the Fairmont Austin will be located directly east of the Austin Convention. The planned number of rooms will likely be reduced from 1,035 to approximately 1,000, allowing for larger guestrooms and suites, says Todd Runkle, managing director of project architect Gensler Austin.
On the design front, the hotel will encompass a number of green building elements. To that end, LEED certification will be sought from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The project will mark Fairmont’s second hotel in Texas and will join the Fairmont Dallas, located in the heart of the Downtown Arts District.
