HAC Announces Awards of Excellence Recipients


The Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) has announced the winners of its 2015 Hall of Fame Awards of Excellence.

The association’s Hall of Fame program was developed to recognize members (individuals, companies or properties) that have demonstrated significant accomplishments, exemplary leadership and tireless commitment to Canada’s lodging industry. It includes four categories: Green Key Meetings; Humanitarian; Human Resources; and Green Key Energy & Environment.

The 2015 winners are:

“The goal of HAC’s awards program is to reward strong standards in the industry that will enable Canada to remain competitive,” said Tony Pollard, HAC president. “We are delighted to honor the 2015 award recipients whom we feel represent some of the finest examples of professionalism, quality and excellence in the industry.”

Trevor Lui, director of operations and sustainability, The International Centre, said that receiving the award honored years of hard work by the team at The International Centre.

“Our team’s efforts led by our sustainability officer, Sonya Poorter, provide us the opportunity to offer more sustainable and holistic experiences with our customers’ events,” explained Lui. “Sustainable business practices are the fabric of all our daily operations and we are thankful to our peers, clients and staff who have been influential in all our continued efforts as we strive to get better each day.”

The Hall of Fame Awards of Excellence will be presented at the Hotel Association of Canada Conference, which runs February 29-March 1, 2016 at the Hilton Toronto Hotel.

For more than 100 years, HAC has been the voice of the Canadian hotel and lodging industry. It represents more than 8,100 hotels, motels and resorts that encompass the $17.5 billion Canadian hotel industry which employs 288,000 people across the country.
