Rendering of the six wind turbines planned for the resort.
Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort is adding six wind turbines to its rooftop, beginning in September, with the aim of reducing the property’s energy footprint.
The wind turbines are about 40 ft. high and will be positioned on each corner and in the centre of the 25-storey hotel’s rooftop, providing maximum wind exposure.
Each wind turbine will produce 24,000 KWH, ultimately assisting in reducing the amount of energy being used in guestrooms and on-property.
Installation is expected to begin in September, with the estimated cost to be more than $500,000; however, since the hotel expects to see a reduction in energy consumption, there will eventually be a cost savings.
The Hilton all-suite resort is located across from the Atlantic Ocean, on highway A1A. The turbine installation is expected to take 30 to 60 days.
