InterContinental Hotels Group has opened the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Saint-Hyacinthe, the company’s first sustainable hotel in Canada and the first of its type in Quebec.
The 94-room property has been built to meet the criteria of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System for its sustainable practices.
Of interest to meeting planners seeking a green venue, the property features a high-efficiency energy distribution, ultra-insulated building and LED and low-voltage fluorescent lighting.
Moreover, the property features a white roof to reflect sun’s heat; includes heat-capturing water coils; and features custom-made, natural-fibre mattresses, with bamboo and soya bases.
In other news, IHG has opened the 76-room Holiday Inn & Suites, in Surrey, B.C. The property features 2,380 sq. ft. of function space.
