Hotels.ca Reports Secondary Cities More Popular

Secondary cities have experienced the greatest growth in popularity with domestic and international travellers, reports Hotels.ca. The one exception is Winnipeg, which climbed two spots, breaking into the top ten.

According to the accommodation booking website’s latest Hotel Price Index™, Mont Tremblant, QC and Penticton, BC,  saw the biggest increases in popularity. A popular winter sports destination, Mont Tremblant’s jump in numbers was attributed to an unseasonably long winter. Penticton reported an increase in tourism due to the low dollar and growth of staycations. The city is also hosting the 2015 GoMedia conference.

In addition to being a university town, Waterloo has become a hub for tech startups and is often referred to as the Silicon Valley of the North. Tofino, a town on the west coast of Vancouver Island, also recorded a solid increase in U.S. visitors thanks to its weather, scenery and beaches.
