Marriott Luxury Brand Opens Property in Caribbean


Marriott International’s luxury brand, JW Marriott, has entered the Caribbean market.

The 150-room JW Marriott Santo Domingo opened on August 27th, 2014. It is located in the Blue Mall in the upscale Piantini financial district of the Dominican Republic’s capital city.

The hotel has nine event spaces including an 1,158-square-foot ballroom. Its food and beverage venues include the VERTY GO 101 lounge (a glass floored restaurant and bar that “floats” 101 feel above the street below–a first in the Dominican Republic);  the Winston Grill & Patio, a fine dining resto overseen by Chef Sergio Delfino; the 12th floor Terrace Bar, a pool bar providing a panoramic view of the city; and the Lobby Bar, which has complimentary WiFi and was specially designed as a social and networking space.

The property has 113 deluxe rooms (59 king size, 30 doubles, 21 connecting and four premium corner), and 20 suites (15 junior suites and five master suites). Its Executive Floor (37) has 17 executive deluxe kings, 12 executive deluxe doubles, 2 executive premium corners, three executive junior suites, two executive master suites, and a 2,100+-square-foot presidential suite featuring high-end details such as an $8,000 Kohler bath tub with light therapy, massage and hydrotherapy.

The opening of the property was attended Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina and the country’s Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia.
