MIET 2015 Donates $20,000 for Cancer Research

This year’s Meetings Industry Euchre Tournament (MIET) raised $20,000 in support of the Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Research Foundation, report the event’s co-chairs, Sheila Wong and Monica Simmie.

Held April 30, 2015 at the Allstream Centre, Exhibition Place  in Toronto, the event included beginner euchre lessons and tips courtesy of Alice Parnis, Event Fusion; a delicious, casual buffet dinner; raffles; balloon pops; 50/50 draw; Poker Joker; and a sale of beautiful jewellery created by event founder Sheila Wong, with all proceeds going to Princess Margaret.

The 2015 tournament partners and sponsors were:

  • The Winning Hand: Allstream Centre and Tourism Toronto
  • Right Bower: Mystique Brand Communications, Ignite, and Meetings + Incentive Travel
  • Left Bower: Scotiabank, Porter Airlines and Microspec
  • Ace: BBW International, Calgary Meetings + Conventions, GES, The International Centre and Whistler British Columbia

Next year’s edition of MIET will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Allstream Centre. It will be helmed by Margaret Johnston of EventWorks. “Margaret has been in the events industry since the late ’80s. She is an innovator and generous spirit,” says Wong, who announced she was stepping down as chair at the end of the 2015 tournament. “She brings with her a wealth of industry experience. More importantly, Margaret’s leadership style will propel the MIET committee to bigger and better things.”
