Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Ottawa’s annual charity auction and dinner drew more than 600 meeting, tourism and event professionals and raised $26,713 for the Ottawa Network for Education’s School Breakfast Program.
The event was held January 29, 2015 at the Shaw Centre (formerly the Ottawa Convention Centre), following the Canadian Society of Association Executives’ (CSAE) one-day tradeshow, Tête-à-Tête.
The School Breakfast Program is MPI Ottawa’s principle recipient charity. It prepares and serves nutritious breakfasts to 13,000 children and youth in 166 schools across the city each day. In addition, to raising monies at the charity auction and dinner, MPI Ottawa members assist during the course of the year, serving breakfasts in schools.
MPI Ottawa supports this investment in the nutrition of children. Research shows that starting the day with a nutritious breakfast improves a child’s ability to focus and learn as well as building self-esteem. The Ottawa Network for Education’s School Breakfast Program strives to ensure that every child in our community has access to a healthy breakfast and that all children are given an equal opportunity to succeed at school.
The chapter’s auction has consistently raised more than $25,000 each year in support of the program.
