The Breakfast with Santa Foundation and the MPI Toronto Chapter Educational Reserve Fund are the beneficiaries of $22,169 raised at the 2014 MPI Toronto Bright Lights, Big City Holiday Gala, which was held Monday, December 1 at the just-opened Delta Toronto.
The Gala fund-raising efforts included a raffle draw, silent auction and live auction, all organized and executed by the chapter’s Sponsorship Committee, which worked in tandem with the Holiday Gala Committee.
For the first time attendees were able to purchase raffle tickets ($20 for an arm’s length or three for $10) when they registered for the event. The tickets were then placed in the attendees’ name tag holders so they could put them in raffle boxes when they arrived at the Gala. Prizes for the raffle included a basket of wine, a Pandora bracelet and a stay at Caesars Windsor.
The silent auction drew donations from suppliers across Canada, giving attendees the opportunity to bid on more than 65 items and experiences.
A live auction topped off the evening’s fundraising efforts. There was spirited bidding for a WestJet trip to Vancouver, a Porter trip to Washington, D.C., and the opportunity to have the International Centre’s executive chef Tawfik Shehata (accompanied by the Centre’s irrepressible director of operations and sustainability, Trevor Lui) prepare a gourmet meal for eight at one’s home.
In the spirit of the holidays, Lui offered the International Centre’s gourmet meal experience to the top three bidders, making the holiday even brighter for the chapter’s educational reserve fund and the Breakfast with Santa Foundation.
