Just in time for Christmas (are you listening, Santa?), I’ve compiled my mobile-application wish list for 2011.
Why do I have a wish list for mobile applications for my events and expositions?
Simple – according to financial-services company Morgan Stanley, by the year 2015, the number of mobile Internet users will be greater than the number of desktop Internet users.
Mobile apps are truly ‘green’ – decreasing your event’s carbon footprint – and in most cases, can increase sales revenue and help you cut costs.
And mobile apps allow you to reach your attendees wherever they’re located, 24/7, and keep them engaged throughout the year. As a bonus, many of these apps offer overlapping features.
This app is a mobile showguide. Save on printing and increase on-site participation. Add revenue by selling mobile banner adds to sponsors and exhibitors.
An Event Ticket sales app. Attendees receives a bar code or QR Code with their receipt when they buy their ticket.
Show-website portal automatically sends event-website content and a searchable exhibit floorplan to any mobile device.
This app is an event portal and can be used for audience-response polls.
A bar code on steroids. Used in print marketing or magazine reporting. The print story includes a QR Code that is scanned into a smart phone and the detailed story is downloaded. Great for print ads.
MarketArt’s You Are Here has been heavily promoted by the International Association of Expositions and Events’ (IAEE) Expo! Expo! as an interactive event map, directory and exhibitor sponsorship system. Includes a social-media stream.
Your mobile travel assistant. TripIt organizes travel plans into an itinerary that gathers all your trip details in one place.
Available on most smart phones, Grupio is an event portal and includes social-networking capability.
• Super Planner
