New York’s Scarpetta Restaurant Launch in Thompson Toronto Delayed, Possibly til Mid-July

Acclaimed New York restaurant Scarpetta’s launch in the upcoming Thompson Toronto hotel has been delayed, possibly until mid-July.

Acclaimed New York restaurant Scarpetta’s launch in the upcoming Thompson Toronto hotel has been delayed, possibly as late as mid-July.

Scheduled to open in May, the Italian restaurant is now slated to open by the end of June, “mid-July at the latest,” says Scarpetta owner Scott Conant on the phone from New York.

“We’re waiting for millwork – cabinets and a wine wall,” says Conant. He adds that the restaurant’s flooring has been installed and that the hotel itself “is almost ready, from what I understand.”

Under a multi-year management contract, Conant will oversee the 150-seat Toronto location, which will be designed by New York-based Studio Gaia. It will serve lunch and dinner and could become a favourite for events and incentive travel group dine-arounds.

As with its New York counterpart, the Toronto location will serve rustic, homestyle Italian fare.

Alan Kwan has been hired as corporate chef for the Toronto restaurant.
