New York celebrity chef Scott Conant will open his Scarpetta restaurant to the Thompson Toronto hotel in May.
Under a multi-year management contract, Conant will manage the 150-seat Toronto location, which will be designed by New York-based Studio Gaia. It will serve lunch and dinner and could become a favourite for incentive travel group dine-arounds.
Located in New York’s Meatpacking District, Scarpetta serves rustic, homestyle fare and is considered one of the city’s best Italian restaurants.
Dishes expected to appear on the Toronto menu include spaghetti pomodoro and crudo (raw seafood cut like sashimi but flavoured in the Italian style).
A second Scarpetta location operates in Miami’s Fontainebleau hotel.
Conant has appeared on such Food Network shows as “Top Chef” and “Chopped.” Recently, he opened a second New York restaurant, Faustina.
