Atlanta's convention facility.

The Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) in downtown Atlanta is spending $1.5-million to overhaul the infrastructure and electronics that provide network and Internet connectivity for events. A completion date is set for June.

The project allows for a higher capacity network for the distribution of data (for instance streaming video and presentations) throughout the GWCC. The medical and high-tech segments of the industry will most likely benefit most from the upgrades, since they are typically the largest consumers of bandwidth.

The 3.9-million-sq.-ft convention centre, with its 12 exhibit halls, 100 meeting rooms, two ballrooms, three auditoriums and three plazas, can host functions from 10-person corporate meetings to 30,000-person tradeshows and even non-traditional indoor events such as volleyball.

There are 13,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of the centre and over 94,000 rooms in the metro area.
