Air Canada’s enRoute magazine has named its Best New Restaurants of 2012 and Toronto has scored big, nabbing an unprecedented six of the 10 spots on the list.
“With a flurry of lease signings and exhaust-fan installations, the city’s dining scene is on fire,” writes food journalist Sarah Musgrave in enRoute’s November issue.
Canada’s best new restaurant was Edulis, in Toronto.
“The make-it-look-easy restaurant of the year,” wrote Musgrave. “Refreshingly more show than tell, it does barn-to-table without the fuss. It’s, above all, not self-conscious. Nor should you be when you come back for more.”
Rounding out the list, in descending order, are Model Milk (Calgary); Ursa (Toronto); Acadia (Toronto); Pastaga (Montreal); Hopgood’s Foodliner (Toronto); Grand Electric (Toronto); Keriwa Café (Toronto); Borgo (Calgary); and Nora Gray (Montreal).
In 2012, Musgrave once again ate her way across Canada on a month-long journey, dining anonymously wherever she landed.
