Green Key Global, the international certification body evaluating sustainable hotel operations, has awarded its 5 Green Keys rating to The Westin Ottawa, for its Green Key Meetings Program.
The hotel is the first Starwood property to receive 5 Green Keys for both the Green Key Eco-Rating Program and Green Key Meetings Program.
‘Leave Nothing Behind,’ the hotel’s waste-management policy, encourages conference exhibitors to recycle onsite or find ways for the materials to be reused without negatively affecting the environment.
The hotel also launched a program giving planners the option to offset the carbon produced from meetings and events.
In addition, the hotel’s green-meetings team undertakes regular energy and water audits, as it works toward Starwood’s mission to save 30 per cent in energy and 20 per cent in water by 2020.

Kudos to Westin Ottawa for 5 Green Keys. It’s a great accomplishment and they are also very proud – way to go! Let’s get more hotels doing this. It’s going to make my job easier when I take my annual meeting there in 2014.
