On the shores of Lake Superior, embracing a community of 120,000 residents, Thunder Bay, Ont., offers numerous advantages for planning meetings, conferences and corporate events. Thunder Bay offers more than 1,900 hotel rooms, as well as hotel facilities with a capacity to host up to 700. The city also features a variety of flexible indoor spaces for groups of up to 1,500, as well as large outdoor venues that can accommodate up to 53,000.

Thunder Bay is also rife with unique venues for memorable events, including Fort William Historical Park and Chippewa Park. Intimate corporate meetings can take place aboard a chartered 44-ft. sailboat, with catering focused on fresh, local cuisine.

Tourism Thunder Bay is a one-stop shop for planners seeking a unique blend of rich urban culture, exceptional customer service and the amenities of a modern community. In order to enhance the conference-planner experience, we are striving to personalize the process by acting as a concierge, attending to specific details and requirements throughout the planning process. We have also begun the transition to a greater web-based marketing presence by providing more detailed information on our tourism website, complementing the print version of our Meeting Planner’s Guide to the Community.

Tourism Thunder Bay is also reaching out to key sectors whose strong presence in the community provides the potential to host local events, including mining, education, health sciences, government and First Nations groups. We are working closely with local agencies to serve as corporate tourism ambassadors and to encourage these sectors to host regional, provincial, national and international events in Thunder Bay.

By road, Thunder Bay is just eight hours east of Winnipeg, 14 hours west of Toronto and just 45 minutes north of the U.S. border. The city offers access to 50-million people within a 15-hour drive radius and offers excellent air access through national and international carriers, including WestJet, Porter Airlines, Air Canada Jazz and Northwest Airlines and regional service on Bearskin Airlines and Wasaya Airways.
