The Travel Alberta Industry Conference was named the overall Best Meeting in Canada, as well as Best Large Meeting, in the first annual Best Meeting in Canada Awards, from Meetings & Incentive Travel magazine.
Brampton, Ont.’s, Shnier, Gesco Limited Partnership’s Shnier Summit won the Best Medium Meeting in Canada, and Moncton, N.B.-based Co-op Atlantic’s August Board Tour won the Best Small Meeting in Canada.
The Best Meeting in Canada recognizes and rewards organizations that invest in meetings as an integral part of doing business.
Each Best Meeting in Canada winner had clearly defined goals and objectives for their meeting and was able to measure and calculate a positive return-on-investment for their event.
This first annual award programme was developed by Meetings & Incentive Travel and InterContinental Hotels Group.
Conferences and events were nominated last fall by attendees and vetted through a national jury of meeting industry experts. The 19 finalists were chosen and asked to submit a business case for their event. The jury then chose the three winners from the finalist submissions.
Nominations for next year’s Best Meeting in Canada will open in September, 2010.

I was deighted to learn that the Travel Alberta Industry Conference earned this award. The good people at Travel Alberta are certainly deserving of this recognition. They have also earned the respect and support of the very active tourism, travel and hospitality industry in the province. It is also great that M&IT and IHG have facilitated these awards.

A warm Alberta thanks to all who were involved in our nomination, vetting and selection as the winner of the Best Meeting in Canada and Best Large Meeting in Canada. To win one award is a great honour, but to win two at the same time is beyond words!
We’ve held our Tourism Industry Conference now for several years and it is a testament to the outstanding work of our partners at Details Event Management, the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, our great sponsors, our internal event team at Travel Alberta and of course, the over 700 tourism industry businesses who take time from their busy schedules to attend every year.

Co-op Atlantic is very pleased to have earned the Best Small Meeting in Canada Award. We are very proud of the August Board Tour annual event; and to have won an award for it just makes planning this years tour even more exciting.
