Your Online Glossary

Jai Cole's ExpositionGuru blog
I realized that I learned a completely new language when I became seriously involved with communicating using the web and digital tools and technologies. I love being online and figuring out how to use new communications tools, meta tags for my website to optimize it for search engines.
Many of my colleagues are still learning how to use RSS feeds and bookmarks and wading their way through the new language would be a lot easier with a non-technical reference guide to social-media communications. For those of you that are learning how to use various social-media applications, this glossary of online terms should help. I would like to think of it as a work-in-progress. If you have additions, please send them as comments and I will add them. And if you know of a reference website that is good, please share it. > Read More

Hootsuite Reigns! A Convert’s Tale
In my January blog post, I briefly mentioned how using Hootsuite helped to save the day and promised to give you the skinny about this nifty tool.
When I started using Twitter, I created one account, ExpositionGuru. I began following people that were in the meeting, events and hospitality industry and lo and behold, they began to follow me.
One day, I stumbled upon conferences and events that had Twitter accounts. Events that were similar to mine. It wasn’t too much of a leap to realize I needed to have a Twitter account for each of my events and that is when I hit a brick wall.
You see, each Twitter account must have an exclusive e-mail and password, which is unwieldy, since there are only so many e-mails available and it’s difficult to keep track of multiple passwords.
Then, miraculously, I found Hootsuite, an application that manages multiple Twitter accounts, including LinkedIn and Facebook accounts. > Read More

Get a Leash on Life, Own a Smart Phone
Just before Christmas, I was at the car dealership, having my oil changed, tires checked and washer fluid topped up, when I received an e-mail from a new client.
Susan, marketing manager with a newly signed sponsor for Plum’s flagship information-technology expo, called our office and received the voice message that our office would be closed during Christmas week; however, if it was urgent, I could be reached via e-mail.
Urgent? This was a drop-dead emergency.
It happens that the logo we published on our event website was not correct – the company had recently rebranded and a new logo had been designed; the logo Susan sent to us for posting was the older version and had to be replaced with the new one.
My client understood that it was her error, but it would be ours if we did not correct the situation immediately. “Immediately” was not Jan. 4 or even tomorrow. She wanted action NOW. > Read More
