Hootsuite Reigns! A Convert’s Tale

February 10, 2010

In my January blog post, I briefly mentioned how using Hootsuite helped to save the day and promised to give you the skinny about this nifty tool.

When I started using Twitter, I created one account, ExpositionGuru. I began following people that were in the meeting, events and hospitality industry and lo and behold, they began to follow me.

One day, I stumbled upon conferences and events that had Twitter accounts. Events that were similar to mine. It wasn’t too much of a leap to realize I needed to have a Twitter account for each of my events and that is when I hit a brick wall.

You see, each Twitter account must have an exclusive e-mail and password, which is unwieldy, since there are only so many e-mails available and it’s difficult to keep track of multiple passwords.

Then, miraculously, I found Hootsuite, an application that manages multiple Twitter accounts, including LinkedIn and Facebook accounts. I set up my account with the wise Owl and now all I have to do is key-in my 140-character message, check off the accounts it should go to and off they fly. Even better, Hootsuite has a built-in app that shrinks your long URL into a shortened version, so you don’t use all your 140 characters and you can tweet immediately or later.

To be fair, there are other Twitter management tools, such as TweetDeck, Twhirl, TweetTwidder and more. Just search for Twitter Tools and you will come up with a whole raft of neat stuff.

For its part, the Owl has me tweeting away with ease and based on reviews from other Twitter users, it is a highly recommended tool.

Bonus! It is available as an iPhone app, enabling twittering on-the-fly.

Is there a Twitter application you can recommend?
