Coinciding with the Vancouver Olympics, the Scandinave Spa group has opened a $9-million spa in Whistler, B.C., ideal for incentive travel groups visiting the area.
Located in the woods just north of Whistler Village, the six-building spa promotes the thousand-year-old tradition of Scandinavian baths. Facilities include dry saunas, steambaths, hot and cold pools, massage rooms, solariums and terraces with outdoor fireplaces.
Treatment options include hydrotherapy and sports, Thai yoga, Swedish and hot-stone massages.
Water quality is monitored via a computerized system that verifies the phyto-chemical composition of the baths (including pH and chlorine levels) and adjusts them continuously, 24 hours a day.
On top of that, the facility features an eco-friendly design that includes a green roof, passive solar energy, installation of heat-recovery and high-effectiveness heating equipment.
Established in 1999, Scandinave Spa operates facilities in Montreal and Mont-Tremblant, Que., Whistler, B.C. and Blue Mountain, in Collingwood, Ont.
