Second Edition of IBTM Industry Research Released

The second edition of the IBTM Global Meetings Industry Research for the Americas was released this week at the ABITM Education Day, held at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Key findings from the research included:

  • a 25 per cent increase in the number of events organized by buyer/planner respondents (25, compared to 20 last year)
  • 44 percent of American buyers expect their volume of events to increase in next 12 months
  • 50 percent of American buyers predict an increase in their attendance
  • meeting budgets for the next twelve months are expected to increase on average 5.2 per cent compared to 3.7 percent over the last 12 months
  • incentive travel is expected to rise two per cent (from 40 per cent to 44 per cent)
  • exhibition events are expected to increase six per cent (50 per cent to 44 per cent)
  • the Americas will remain the key destination for U.S. meeting planners over next 12 months
  • 50 per cent of buyer respondents who attended AIBTM confirmed a direct interest i placing business in Europe, with the United Kingdom, France and Germany identified as attracting significant numbers of events last year
  • 40 per cent of buyer respondents confirmed an interest in Asia
  • 63 per cent of respondents predicted the use of new destinations for their events in the next 12 months with Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Antiqua & Barbuda receiving the highest satisfaction ratings in terms of value delivered for money
  • Florida, California and New York were identified as top states for volume events
  • 76 per cent of planners predict an increase in the use of new technology to shape event content
  • 73 per cent confirm using social media to communicate with attendees before and during events
  • 47 per cent of respondents confirms that they use smart phone app to provide event delegates with information
