Steeltown’s leading hotel, the Sheraton Hamilton, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month.
The property, which is owned and operated by Vrancor Group, opened in 1985. A downtown landmark and fixture in the local community, is has welcomed more than 3 million guests, including royalty, Prime Ministers and international film stars and artists.

A key element of Sheraton Hamilton’s success is its close, supportive ties to the community. The hotel is the official hotel partner of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club and a five-time consecutive winner of both the prestigious Consumers Choice Award and Hamilton Spectators’ Readers Choice Award for Best Hotel. Ryan Iverson, from the hotels’ Engineering Department was recently recognized by the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club for his integral role in supporting The Hamilton Community Peregrine Project, once considered Ontario’s best-known endangered species. In 2012, Jenny Wilkins, guest service associate, was recognized as Canadian Tourism Awards winner, Employee of the Year.
The 301-room property has 19 meeting spaces totaling 17,000 square feet. Its 5,989-square-foot Grand Ballroom accommodates 600 theatre-style and 400 for galas. The hotel’s lobby and its pool deck can also be used for events, offering 3,000 square feet and 2,000 square feet of space respectively.
