Site Canada Announces Inaugural ICE Award Winner

Meridican Incentive Consultants is the first winner of a Site Canada ICE Award, the association’s new recognition program for its members. The win was announced yesterday at the 2014 Site Canada Education Day.

Diane Alexander (left) and Heather Douglas (right), MeridicanSite Canada launched the program in May. It includes two categories: Program Excellence and Destination Excellence. Program Excellence recognizes an incentive program, designed and managed by a Site Canada member and applies to both group and individual travel incentive programs. Destination Excellence recognizes a creative and impactful initiative developed by a Site Canada member, aimed at promoting the growth of the incentive travel market as a whole. No award was given in the latter category.

Meridican took the Program Excellence award for an incentive trip to Barcelona for 560 top performers at a food services company. Diane Alexander, business development manager, led the Meridican team.

“This program evolved significantly from what was originally proposed to our client.  There were quite a few people who ultimately contributed to the design of it so really it was a collaborative effort between our client, the team at Meridican and our supplier partners,” she explained.

Program elements included accommodation at the Hotel Arts Barcelona and hosted events at Opium Mar, the Maritime Museum, Codorniu Winery and Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC).

“Our client is a food service company so the program content focused on the food culture of Barcelona and other regions in Spain.  It also included a gala awards evening at the hotel, two days of hosted optional activities, and dine arounds in Barcelona, Sitges, Terragona and Girona,” Alexander added.
