Destination St. John’s reports that three weeks ago the St. John’s Convention Centre hosted its last event and its keys were handed over to the contractor. Since then windows have been installed and the project appears is on target for completion in December 2015.
The next phase of the project will see the new and old buildings joined together. The $60 million expansion will double the capacity of the convention centre, expand it westward and create a direct link to the St. John’s Delta Hotel, giving 100,000 square feet under one roof.
“I am so delighted to have reached this stage of the construction project on schedule,” said Sheena McCrate, CEO, St. John’s Sports and Entertainment Ltd. “With 47,000 square feet of new divisible meeting space, even more people can come to share in the magic of St. John’s. We have a number of clients confirmed for 2016 and beyond. We can’t wait to show off our brand new facility.”
In the meantime, 2015 will see plenty of conventions and events at St. John’s larger hotels. Planners are invited to contact a member of Destination St. John’s sales team to book convention and event space.
