Starwood Hotels & Resorts is piloting a new check-in system at its Aloft hotels.
The system allows guests to bypass the traditional check-in process and head straight to their rooms.
With the new smart check-in program, designed by security technology solution provider VinCard Elsafe, guests are texted their room numbers before arrival and then use their Starwood Preferred Guest membership cards as a key to enter the room.
According to Air Business & Travel News, Starwood said mobile check-ins will be introduced in some American Aloft Hotels first, but wouldn’t confirm when, adding that this is not something Starwood would consider for all brands at the moment, although the more “experimental” brand W could see the technology introduced.
Starwood is not the first to try mobile check-ins. In 2008, Omni Hotels announced it was providing an online check-in service enabling guests to check-in using a smartphone before reaching their destination.
