The winner of this year’s Top Chef Canada competition, Carl Heinrich, plans to open a restaurant in downtown Toronto, perhaps as early as summer.
Called the Richmond Station, the restaurant is expected to open in the Yonge/Richmond area and will follow a French-influenced, local/seasonal, nose-to-tail philosophy, according to a spokesperson.
Heinrich will open the eatery in conjunction with Ryan Donovan, with whom he worked at Marben restaurant, in Toronto.
During the 12-week Top Chef Canada competition, broadcast on the Food Network, Heinrich battled against 15 other contestants.
“His understanding of flavours and cooking techniques really made him stand out,” says celebrity chef judge Mark McEwan, in a release.
Heinrich has worked in such high-profile kitchens as Rundles, in Stratford and db Bistro Moderne, in Vancouver.
