Dianne Young, Exhibition Place’s CEO, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI). Her three-year term began October 30, 2014, following the UFI General Assembly in Bogota, Colombia.
An active member of UFI, Young is the first Canadian appointed to the Board. Previously she sat on the association’s Social Corporate Responsibilities Committee. On October 30th, she took up the mantle of Chair of the Sustainable Development Committee.
Young has demonstrated her personal and professional dedication to environmental responsibility in the position as CEO of Exhibition Place. Since 2004, Exhibition Place has undertaken an environmental stewardship initiative, entitled GREENSmart, which includes the promotion of sustainable development, environmental initiatives and leading-edge green technologies and practices across the site.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors for their support in my appointment. As the first Canadian representative, I look forward to working with the new Board and supporting UFI’s goal to represent, promote and support its members and the exhibition industry worldwide,” said Young. “UFI has taken the lead in establishing an international program to promote sustainability and the Sustainability Committee has ambitious goals to further develop its program in the next few years.”
The UFI is the association of trade show organizers, fairground owners, national and international associations of the exhibition industry. It represents 647 member organizations, present in 229 cities in 82 countries on six continents.
Located in Toronto, Exhibition Place is Canada’s largest entertainment venue. The 192-acre site is an integral component of Toronto and Ontario’s economy, particularly with respect to conventions, sports, festivals, recreation, culture and tourism. Young joined Exhibition Place in 1999 and held progressive positions as General Manager and Chief Executive Officer.
