Windstar is doubling its fleet size.
With the acquisition of three small ships from Seabourn cruise line –Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Legend, and Seabourn Spirit – Windstar Cruises has doubled the size of its fleet and becomes, according to a news release, “the market leader in small-ship cruising, with 300 or fewer passengers, with a total of 1,230 berths.”
Under the project name Global Windstar, the cruise line will, over the next two years, take possession of the three 104 all-suite ships, accommodating 208 passengers each.
The Seabourn Pride – once renovated by Windstar and newly christened – will be the first of the three new ships to launch when it set sails in the Mediterranean in May 2014.
Adding to the current 50 countries the company currently sails to, the birth of Global Windstar will also allow the cruise line to service new regions of the world, such as Asia and South America.
The expansion comes on the heels of four straight years of growth and a recent fleet-wide renovation.
