Centerplate at BC Place Receives Top Sports Venue Award

The onsite hospitality team at Vancouver’s BC Place is this year’s winner of the Best Sports Venue Award from Centerplate, a catering and hospitality services provider with more than 100 sports venue partners across North America and the United Kingdom.

Led by general manager Paul McArdle and executive chef William Tse, the team set new sales and profitability records in 2017 while dishing up an extensive menu ranging from stadium classics like hot dogs and burgers to gourmet Korean BBQ chicken bowls at the venue, which is home to two professional sports teams (the BC Lions Football Club and Vancouver Whitecaps FC) and the host of major concerts (U2, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and Coldplay in 2017).

“Vancouver is one of the fastest-growing cities in North Ameria and has quickly become lauded for its diverse entertainment and culinary options,” said Centerplate executive vice-president Greg Fender. “Serving as the hospitality provider at BC Place Stadium, the team here ensures that all guests at BC Place have an experience like no other when they visit this iconic stadium”

“We challenged our partners at Centerplate to create an innovative food and beverage program that would help position BC Place as the premier stadium in Canada, or as we like to say, ‘Canada’s Home Stadium’,” said Graham Ramsay, senior director of business, BC Place Stadium. “Chef Will and his team continue to deliver for BC Place with top quality fan favourites, exciting new concepts, locally sourced and sustainable products and diverse offerings for more than one million guests every year. Congratulations to the whole team at Centerplate!”

Centerplate at BC Place takes pride in offering menus that include gluten-free options, vegan and vegetarian dishes and even Halal offerings for certain events, using local products and suppliers from British Columbia and surrounding areas.

Centerplate’s annual awards program honours excellence in several venue categories, including convention centers, restaurants, resorts, cinemas, arenas, zoos, aquariums and more. The award winners were announced at the company’s annual meeting, which was held this April in Raleigh, North Carolina.
